
The baritone Yaron Windmüller, born in Israel, covers a wide-ranging musical repertoire encompassing, in the recital and concert arena, works of the pre-classical period via classical and romantic compositions through to pieces of the 21 st century and, in the field of opera, both lyrical and character parts.
His close cooperative relationship with composers such as Reimann, Hosokawa, Bialas, Eggert, Rihm, von Bose and others have seen him engaged on repeated occasions to take part in the first performance of many of their new works.
On the opera stage, Yaron Windmüller is characterised by his intensive interaction with whichever role he is playing at the given time. These have recently included Kowaljow in Schostakowitsch's „The Nose“, the lead role in Berg's „Wozzeck“, Edgar in Hosokawa's „Vision of Lear“ (UA), Paolo in Verdi's „Simone Boccanegra“, Don Alfonso in Mozart's "Cosi fan Tutte" , Orfeo in Gluck's „Orfeo ed Euridice" und Tomsky in Tschaikowsky's „Pique Dame“.
The singer's operatic career was launched in the opera studios of the Bavarian National Theatre in Munich in 1981, a period followed by an engagement at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz (State Theatre on Gärtner Square) in Munich as well as guest contracts at, among others, Brunswick State Theatre in Germany and opera houses in Augsburg, Bonn, London, Tokyo, Wellington, Tel Aviv, Leeds, Frankfurt and Saarbrücken.
Yaron Windmüller has worked with many conductors including Sergiu Celibidache, Zubin Mehta, Gary Bertini, Helmuth Rilling, Christoph Eschenbach, Günther Herbig and Peter Eötvös as well as with directors such as Jaroslav Chundela, Stephen Lawless, Tadashi Suzuki, Peter Baumgardt.
As a recital performer he has been accompanied by Christoph Eschenbach, Robert Levin and Axel Bauni. As part of the culture and events programme held in the German Pavilion at EXPO 2000 in Hanover, he, together with Axel Bauni, was responsible for the planning of the „Lied: Strahl“ project week that was devoted to the field of ‘Kunstlied'.
His recent recordings on CD include: Darius Milhaud's „Service Sacré“ (Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Gerard Schwarz), Moritz Eggert's „Neue Dichterlieben“ (Moritz Eggert), Wolfgang Rihm's „Lieder“ (Axel Bauni), Théodore Gouvy's „Lieder“ (Thomas Hans), Viktor Ullmann's „Lieder“ (Axel Bauni), Günter Bialas' „Aus der Matratzengruft“ (Bavarian Symphony Orchestra, Hans-Martin Schneidt), Boris Blacher's „Lieder“ (Axel Bauni) and Giuseppe Verdi's „Simone Boccanegra“ (New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Marco Guidarini).
Having just recorded Aribert Reimann's "Kumi Ori" and "Zyklus," (both featuring texts by Paul Celan) with the Saarländischen Radio Orchestra under the baton of Günther Herbig, and performing in a production of "Zaide" (Mozart/Czernowin) as part of the Salzburg Festival 2006, as well as with the Basel and Montpellier Opera Companies in 2007, Yaron Windmüller is involved in the following major projects for the 2007/2008 season:
Alexander von Zemlinsky's Lyrical Symphony and Songs by Gustav Mahler at the Philharmonie Belgrad in December 2007, Artistic Director and performer in the "Lied Strahl" Festival at the City Theater of Kempten in December 2007 and the Music Theater of Görlitz in January 2008, Schönberg's "Kol Nidre" and Schubert's "Psalm" in Berlin under the baton of Michael Gielen in May 2008, New production of "Zaide" (Mozart/Czernowin) in May/June 2008 at the Bremen Opera.
Yaron Windmüller is Professor of Voice at the Saarlandes Conservatory of Music and Theater in Saarbrücken, Germany since 1997. From 2001-2006 he also served as head of the Opera Studio of the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv.
